DRILL( 避難訓練)

"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing;" Doctorine and Covenants 88:119

This morning, our family had an emergency preparedness drill.
We asked our children to pack everything they need as if we were gone for three days. We set the timer for five minutes and they had to pack their backpacks. They were excited about the idea and they packed cheerfully. After the timer beeped, we all got in our van and took off.

Ben took us to a camp site. It was windy and cold, but kids didn't care. They were very happy to see the lake.
First, we asked our kids to open up their backpacks. They pulled everything out on the table. They were ALL toys!!! (of course)

Ben:"What are somethings that we need in order for us to survive?"
Kids:" Um... air, water, food, and home (shelter)!"

Ben: " So, did you bring water?"
Kids: "No, but we got water here (pointing to the lake)"
Ben: "Well, did you bring CLEAN water to drink?"
Kids: "Noooo..."

Ben:"Did you bring any food?"
Benjamin: "No.... we didn't bring any food because our house's going to be stroyed(destroyed)."
Daniel:" I did, I did!!!! Look! (showing us the plastic toy fruit)"

Ben:"Did you bring a shelter? Where are we going to sleep for three days?"
Benjamin:"shotel (hotel)."
Ben:"huh? What's that?"
Benjamin:"No, we didn't bring it. We were going to build it, and that's why we brought our tools! (toy tools. they DID bring a lot of their tools. They got the right idea, I guess)"

Then we talked about what we really needed to bring and how important it is for us to be prepared. We started packing some stuff for our 72 hour kit when we got home. It was such a fun activity! We should do this again and hopefully we will be prepared next time!

今日の朝我が家では、予告なしの避難訓練をしました。
子供たちに、これから緊急事態を想定して避難訓練をすることを伝え、また５分でリュックサックに三日間生きのびるのに必要なものをつめるように言いました。急なことだったにもかかわらず、子供たちははりきっていろんなものをリュックに詰めていました。５分のタイマーが鳴った後、すぐに車に乗り込んで出発しました。

ベンはちょっと離れたところにあるキャンプ場につれてきてくれました。ちょっと風があって寒かったけど、子供たちはうれしそうでした。池があったのでよろこんでいました。とりあえず車から降りるとすぐに、もって来たものを見せてくれるように子供たちに頼みました。テーブルに置かれたものを見てみると、やっぱりすべておもちゃでした！

ベン：生きるのに必要なものってなんだったっけ？
子供：うーんと、空気と水と食べ物と、あとは家（シェルター）！

ベン：それで水持ってきたの？
子供：ううん、でもここに水いっぱいあるじゃん！（池をゆびさしながら）
ベン：うん、でもきれいなのめる水は？
子供：うーん、無い。

ベン：それと食べ物は？
ベンジャミン：もってきてない。でもどうせ家が壊れるからもってこれなかったの！
ダニエル：ぼく持ってきたよ！見てみて！（おもちゃのプラスチックのメロンでした）

ベン：それで、三日間どこにねるの？
子供：ホテル！
ベン：そんなものないよ？
ベンジャミン：もってきてないけど、でも作るんだよ。そのために工具いっぱい持ってきたよ！（確かに、もってきてたものほとんどはおもちゃの工具でした。一応彼らなりにいろいろ考えてたんだなあ。）

その後は、本当はどんなものが必要だったかとか、いつも何かのために備えておく必要があることを一緒に話し合いました。家に帰ってからは、三日間のサバイバルセットの準備を始めました。なかなか楽しかったです。今度するときはもっと備えができているといいです。
