節分（setu-bun)

Today, (well, last night, correctly) was Setu bun. It's a Japanese tradition that people throw soybeans to devils so that we will be happy the following year. Usually, dads wear masks of demons and pretend that they are. Kids get to throw dried soybeans.

My mom is so good at sending us soybeans for this custom every year. We got them today.
So guess what we did for our Family Home Evening???
Of course, we thought about applying this to the gospel. Ben told kids that there is Satan that tries to make us unhappy. He also told kids that they need to say something that we could do to make Satan go away, when they throw beans at the same time. So the boys had a lot of fun playing this game. They said, "Go to church!", "Pray!", "Study scriptures!"
Benjamin really liked throwing beans. Daniel did too, but he also liked picking up beans and eat them. (we are only supposed to eat according to our age, so Daniel can eat 3 because he is 3 yr-old. but I really didn't care how much he eats) Samuel was scared of Ben wearing the mask.
Caleb was just watching everybody run around.
We had a great time today.

今日はおばあちゃんがおくってくれたお豆で豆まきをしました。
ベンジャミンとダニエルは、きゃーきゃーいってベンを追っかけまわして豆を投げました。
さみゅえるは、鬼のお面がこわかったみたいで、泣いてしまいました。　ケイラブは静かにすわってみんなが走り回っているのを眺めてました。みんな豆が大好きで、落ちた豆、きれいにひろって食べてくれましたとも。ほんとは年の数だけ、だけど、まあいいか。今日はすごい量の豆をたべちゃったから、明日大丈夫かな、みんな。今回の豆まき、ちょっとルールを加えてみました。鬼に向かって豆をまくときに、鬼（悪魔？）をおいはらうために、わたしたちにできることを言うことにしました。いつもよい行いをしていると、誘惑に負けず、正しい選択ができるという教訓を子供たちにおしえたかったのですー。こどもたちは、豆を投げるときに、大声で、”お祈りするー！”、"聖典を読む！”、"教会にいく！"といっていました。ベンがお仕事に行ってからわたしも鬼になってみたけど、豆って当たると痛いんだなあ。とあらためて実感。ベンジャミンなんか、力がいいからなあ。楽しかったです。おばあちゃん、ありがとう！
